There was nothing extraterrestrial or radioactive about the rock. In fact, it wasn’t a rock at all, the immensely comforted pair were told. They had come across ambergris, a word that Steven was hearing for the first time in his life. The danger might have ended for the couple, but their curiosity was still burning.

So, what exactly is ambergris? It is an incredibly rare and mightily treasured substance that is held in high regard by many cultures around the world, historically and in modern times. Despite having a rancidly fecal smell in its natural state, with the proper treatment, it can become pleasant smelling and can be used to create fancy perfumes. It will sometimes wash up on beaches, and some people even eat the stuff, or so they say!
