Peeking Behind the Curtain
Maintaining looks is an important aspect of socialite life. Whatever is going on in your professional or personal life, you never show it, and the Bouviers were particularly adept at this. However, anyone looking beyond the curtain would discover a terribly flawed household. Lee’s father preferred drinking with one hand while holding a woman in the other. The difficulty was that the woman in his arms wasn’t always his spouse. While her mother eventually mustered the resolve to leave him, she made certain to teach her girls something meaningful. She wants her girls to model their lives after hers. Janet showed them how to marry a wealthy man and go up the social ladder. Unfortunately, Lee was slightly distracted.

The Start of an Endless Sibling Rivalry
The Bouvier parents were clearly problematic, but the sisters at least had each other, right? Wrong. Lee and Jackie were raised to compete with one another since they were very little. Jackie was older and looked just like her father, which could explain why she was his favorite. Their father was someone who encouraged his girls to succeed in everything they did. He wanted them to “be the best” at school, in their speech, and in their appearance. Unfortunately for the sisters, only one person can be the best, and Jackie was that person to him, fueling the two Bouvier sisters’ lifelong rivalry.
