You see, almost directly next to the first suitcase lay a second one up in the basement ceiling. Sam had been so thrilled when he found the first one that he had neglected the second suitcase. When he decided to return to that hollow he had unsealed, he shouted in delight when his probing hands brushed against what was undoubtedly another suitcase. He dragged it out and ran back to the dining room to wait for his wife’s return.

When Mary came home, she knew exactly what had happened when she saw the animated expression on her husband’s face. Sam decided that he could not contain his joy over finding these suitcases and decided to share his story on Reddit. He described the rollercoaster that he and Mary went on, and how sensational it was for this mild-mannered couple to go on such an adventure. He also claimed that they would be putting the profits that they made into concluding their mortgage.

The next suitcase was almost identical to the first one that Sam had been found in look and appearance. The only difference was that this suitcase was far heavier than its twin. As you can see from the picture, he stripped the place down and even began digging through the earth! It’s amazing that the whole structure didn’t collapse on Sam’s head with how much demolition he was conducting. Was it greed, or unbearable curiosity?

Mary finally came home to find her husband had destroyed their basement. What had started off ironically as a renovation project had violently swung in the other direction. The filthy Sam took a shower before excitedly revealing to Mary that he had found another suitcase. When they opened this mystery package, however, they came close to calling the FBI and informing them of the events that had taken place in their home. This idea soon faded, however.

Sam washed himself thoroughly in the shower. He was dirtier than he had ever been in his life and was incredibly tired after a day of digging and prying off drywall. When he dried (and composed) himself, he returned to the dining room where Mary sat patiently waiting for the next big reveal. Sam nervously approached the newly discovered suitcase and cranked it open. Again, to their further delight, they found that it was brimming with stacks upon stacks of cash.

The couple was now in possession of two suitcases and Sam was certain that there were more lurking in the shadows of their home. He returned to his “renovations” the next day, but he was in truth completely dedicated to treasure hunting. He was more methodical now, and had experience in finding them. It didn’t take long before a third suitcase popped up. It was now time to uncover more bounty, or at least that what Sam and Mary expected. This third suitcase would be shockingly different, however.

Sam and Mary were rather disappointed when they popped open this third suitcase only to find that it wasn’t overflowing with money. They had been certain that they would find more riches, and Sam had dedicated himself to days of backbreaking work. But their disappointment soon turned into confusion and bafflement when they began rummaging through this third suitcase’s contents. They had no idea what to do now. Money was certainly easier to handle than this new development.

Despite being rather disturbed by what this third suitcase contained, the couple, particularly Sam, were not too bothered or discouraged by this disappointing new find. Sam consoled himself by saying that not every mysterious find in their new home could be monumental, after all. All that mattered to him was that he stayed on this exploratory path and didn’t give up until he was sure that he had found every juicy little secret hidden away.

Eventually, Sam managed to find the remaining suitcases. With each new find, Sam would feel an incredible spike of excitement. But he would sadly be disappointed with each new one. The remaining suitcases that he uncovered would not contain anything noteworthy. Each new one that he found was retrieved with a diminishing enthusiasm. Either way, he and Mary would open each one. Eventually, it was clear that the suitcase adventure had ended. Not that the home was finished with them, however.

Once Sam and Mary were certain that they had finished with the suitcase hunt, life returned to normal. Sam realized that he had to calm down and clean up the messes that he had made in his frenzied mining ventures. The days began passing with ordinary calmness. That was until Sam came across a secret door. He didn’t hesitate and opened it, and inside he found a small space. There, on the floor, was another suitcase!

Sam did not allow himself to become eager about this next suitcase. After all, he had been let down one too many times. He was also starting to feel that his nerves needed some time off – this was all becoming too much for the old man. Regardless, he carried the suitcase down to the usual unpacking spot in the dining room. When his wife came home, they opened the suitcase like so many times before. Their dull expressions suddenly lit up when they saw that this suitcase did, in fact, contain money.

Sam and Mary might have been scared off if they knew the true mazelike nature of this enormous treasure trove.

As Sam stepped about this new secret room, he concluded that the realtor must have deceived them. She was obviously aware of the many blocked-off nooks and crannies in the home. He felt betrayed and bitter. All these little secrets could have turned dangerous for Sam and Mary, and Sam was not entirely convinced that the house was that safe. What’s more, the realtor could have been in on some grand conspiracy, or so Sam thought.

Sam knew that he would need some equipment for this next incredible search.

As you can imagine, Sam was starting to get quite upset about the state of his home. Finding the suitcases in hidden spots across the house was one thing, but the entire sections that had been closed off were too much. No one involved in the house sale had bothered to inform Sam and Mary that there were hidden rooms in the home. When you buy a new home, the least that you can expect from realtors is that they reveal the entire home to you.

What was it about the enigmatic door inside the water heating room that had driven Sam to fetch some equipment? It was laden with heavy locks in a way that strongly suggested that no one was supposed to get inside. Sam ran up the stairs, entered his workroom, and grabbed his toolbox. What he needed most was the hammer. Sam could not believe that it had come to this, but he was determined to shed light on all the dark places in his home.

Sam approached the heavily bolted door and began smashing the locks with his hammer. One by one they fell after several heavy strikes with loud rattles. If Mary had been home, she would have been terrified of her husband. When the last lock hit the ground, Sam grabbed ahold of the door handle and heaved the door open. It shuddered and groaned out of place and decades of pent-up musty air billowed out in Sam’s face.

Sam stepped into this gloomy, moldy room and looked around in shock. The room had been painted black and the only light source was a small, square window covered in grot. Even in the murky dimness, Sam could see to his horror that a disturbing detail had been added to this room. The ceiling and walls were soundproofed. Why on Earth would anyone soundproof a room unless they had something to hide? Sam could not imagine what had gone down in this dark space.

Sam looked about the room and decided that this must have been where some criminal or sociopath conducted all manner of illegal or monstrous activities. This could not be some former band room or private gym – it was too grimy and unsanitary. Sam closely inspected the white-colored tarp that had been nailed to the ceiling and walls to soundproof the room. There was probably all manner of substances that the naked eye could not detect splattered all over them.

For the first time in this crazy journey, Sam felt properly afraid. He had lived a normal and undisturbed life, free of criminal encounters or severe trauma. Sure, he had lost some friends and loved ones, but nothing compared to this feeling. Sam closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and steeled his nerves. He had come this far, and he could not turn back now. Maybe he should have called the police, but this was his home now and he would save it.

Sam decided that he needed his wife for this next episode. She was far wiser than he was, and could provide some much-needed insight into the situation. He ran downstairs, poured himself a strong drink, and awaited her return. When Mary arrived a few hours later, Sam grimly greeted her and asked her to follow him upstairs. They walked into the dark secret room and there, almost immediately, Mary saw another suitcase on the ground. She picked it up and noted that it was far lighter than the others.

Up until this point, Sam and Mary had been having an incredible and fun time on this once innocent treasure hunt. Now, things were completely different. The mood had soured and the innocence was gone. Mary and Sam were now realizing just why all these suitcases had been hidden – it was for some dark purpose. This wasn’t just some old miser hoarding his savings. This newly uncovered darkroom was undoubtedly part of some criminal enterprise.

Mary and Sam returned to the living room in eerie silence. By now, the place where they were supposed to sit down to enjoy peaceful meals was in absolute chaos. Several suitcases were strewn about the table, their contents piled next to them. Sam placed the next suitcase in the limited space that was quickly running out. He opened it and inspected its contents. Inside there were four 1oz silver ingots, wristwatches, cash-filled envelopes from all over the world, and a tiny box filled with jewelry. Why had all this been hidden in that spooky room?

Sam and Mary put the suitcase’s contents to one side and returned to the darkroom. They walked around it slowly, their eyes scanning every corner carefully in search of answers. They needed to know exactly what had happened here, no matter how disturbing. Had people been held captive in here? Had terrible things been done to these prisoners? The old couple was desperate for answers. Just what had their home been used before their arrival?

Mary eventually stumbled upon a note that described a terrifying experience. The writing was barely legible, having been scribbled out in a desperate rush by someone that was in a hysterical state. Sam and Mary could not really make out what this person was trying to communicate, but it was clear that they were desperate for rescue. It was now clear to the couple that this was the scene of a crime, and that the authorities needed to be called.

Other than the suitcase that the couple had found in the darkroom, there was all manner of creepy and enigmatic objects. Not that they really cared anymore about the bits and bobs, considering that someone might have been tortured or even murdered in their home. There was no joy or greedy excitement left in the couple, they knew that they could not profit off this monstrous endeavor. They had to solve the case one way or another.

As disturbed as Sam and Mary were, they had not once stopped recording their experiences with their smartphone cameras. They might have been scared, but they were certainly going to document this entire situation. This would make for an incredible story for their friends and family, and who knows, maybe even the internet and news channels. They also carefully documented everything that they found in the suitcases, including this new one with its odd assortment of trinkets.

The couple spent the rest of the day marching up and down their house from the dining room to the darkroom and back. It was tiring work, but they were committed to their detective work. Neither of them had any experience in the matter, but they were committed to cracking the case. They felt a mixture of fear and curiosity as they poked around this soundproofed room of horrors. Sam found something completely irregular in a corner.

Sam could not believe what he was seeing. There, conveniently hidden in a particularly shady corner of the room, was a completely suspicious Sentry safe. What made it all the more worrying was the fact that it was far newer than anything else they had found. Not all the crimes committed in this home were as historical as they had imagined. The couple realized that more suspicious activity had gone on in their home than they had previously thought.

This case was becoming increasingly complex. Sam had entered a suspicious door, which lead to another suspicious safety door, which led to darkroom, which contained a modern safe. He had broken through layer after layer of security that had never meant to be breached. This was the kind of job for the police or even the FBI, not a sweet old couple, but Sam didn’t care. This was his property, and he had a right to protect it, no matter how shaken he felt.

Sam did not feel a shred of excitement while looking at this safe. Unlike the suitcases, he was sure that there was no providence to be found within. There would be no money, jewelry, or newspaper clippings. This safe was on an entirely different level from the suitcases. Whatever was inside was certainly going to freak him and Mary out. By now, Sam and Mary were nearing a state of panic. All that they wanted was to be safe.

Sam swallowed his fear and googled how to open this kind of safe. Despite its disturbing nature, it wasn’t a difficult cracking process by any means. One just needed to carefully undo the locking mechanism with a knife. Sam steadied his hand and slotted his penknife into the crack that the guide had mentioned, being as careful as possible not to jam the thing. With a light but firm twist, the safe popped open. Inside was a note that said, “save yourself”.

The scribbled words were upsetting alone, but what made them worse was the nature of their writing. The wild, frantic lines had been dragged onto the note with what looked like a person’s finger. Someone had reached a maddened level of desperation in this room. Who knows how long they had languished in here for? And why had this message been locked in a safe? Maybe, this was all part of an elaborate hoax meant to frighten whoever bought the house.

Sam and Mary backed away from this disturbing safe and decided that they were going to return to the more normal parts of their homes to relax and have a soothing cup of tea. But were there even ‘normal’ rooms in this home? Sam worried that every section had some kind of dark secret buried inside. Mary made some tea and they sat down in their lounge to discuss their next step. Perhaps it was time that they handed this case over to the police.

Especially when something is spookily intriguing. Sam was dying to play these tapes.

Sam and Mary were intrigued with the VHS tapes. They wanted desperately to watch them, but how could they? No one has VHS tape players anymore, and they were not going to go out to a junk shop to buy one. Or were they? The two were struggling with their fascination. This wasn’t like them at all. They were rational, level-headed people that didn’t get worked up over things like this. Sam inspected each tape in his hands carefully.

Given that the safe was a far more recent addition to the home’s hidden spaces than the suitcases, it was obvious that the tapes were closer to the 21st century in their creation and placement. Sam saw that the tapes were each labeled with odd numbers. Was this some kind of secret code, or instructions on which order to view them? The need for a VHS tape player was becoming all the more needed and anticipated.

The Missing Link
Out of all the tapes, of which there were six in total, one of them did not have a label. This was highly perplexing, as the inconsistency made Sam wonder whether there was some significance to this mistake. Was someone trying to throw whoever managed to find the tapes off? The harder that this mystery resisted, the more Sam wanted to unveil it. One thing was clear, the authorities were better handled to crack a case like this one.

Sam sat with the tapes for some time, slowly turning each one over in his hands, his eye hungrily scanning their surfaces for more information. He desperately wished to see what was inside of them and what dark secrets they contained. Finally, Sam cracked. He realized that this road only led to madness. He had to call the relevant authorities and inform them of his find. They would not only be able to take this burden off his hands, but tell reveal all the secrets.

Sam felt the weight of the world lift off his shoulders when the FBI van rolled up to their property. A pair of fit agents hopped out of the vehicle and approached him with serious expressions. Sam had briefed them on his finds, and they were eager to help. Or so Sam thought, as they simply took the mysterious tapes off his hands. He would never know what was on them, as that was now classified information.

Although Sam would never learn of the tapes’ contents, that didn’t stop him from approaching the media with his story. The subsequent news special that covered Sam and Mary’s case theorized that these hotly interesting tapes contained footage of the awful crimes that might have been committed in Sam and Mary’s home. Regardless, no one but the person that recorded the tapes in the first place would know what happened, for all the time to come.

All that Sam and Mary were left with were dozens of unanswered questions. The kinds that might never be resolved. From the moment that Sam found the first suitcase in his basement, he should have known that it was a red flag. Indeed, he and his wife were catapulted into a wild and wacky ride that sadly did not go anywhere. Just who had set up this elaborate network of hidden and dangerous treasures in the first place? Were they still alive?

Sam and Mary’s story might be a scary and confusing one, but it does make one wonder whether they are not sitting on top of buried treasure in their own home. Even those that have been living in the same place for many years, who believe that they have their entire property mapped out, might have walked past a near but hidden wonder. Although Sam and Mary were not able to keep any of the suitcases or tapes that they found, and had to part ways with enough treasures to make them fabulously wealthy, they were just glad to be safe. They had eventually realized that they were in over their heads, and that they could be inviting dark forces that could ruin their lives. The couple might not have gained anything from this experience other than a fantastic story, but they are incredibly grateful to be rid of the shadowy power in their home.

People have been finding all manner of incredible hidden things in their homes since we started building them thousands of years ago. In more recent times, people have come across newsworthy stashes while renovating or tidying up their homes. Take our next homeowner for example, who purchased a house for an unbelievably low price. The estate agent that the buying gentleman had worked with had informed him that he would take the home as it was. Not that she specified what “it” was exactly.

The homeowner was, of course, completely enthused about investigating the new place that he had bought for so cheap. He walked down into the basement and looked around. Everything seemed to be in order, save for a sizeable plywood board that was stuck against the wall. The man grabbed a crowbar and pried it off, to find a hidden room that was wall to wall plastered with historical guns, ammunition, and explosives! There was also a chest overflowing with pennies.

Our next story takes us to Britain, where a couple was busy clearing its basement out. Their home once belonged to a Victorian noble family, and they had managed to get an excellent deal on the place. They had a lovely kitchen that had been built in the 1830s, among all other kinds of classic crockery and furniture. They had enough space in their lofty living room to host twenty guests! Another magnificent Victorian treasure that they found was an almost perfectly preserved cookbook with period recipes.

Then there was the case of Linda and Wally DeForest, who were oblivious to the true nature of the home that they had recently purchased. Not long after they had settled in, Linda called Wally while he was on the job and informed him of a strange development in their home. Wally was not exactly sure what to believe, as his wife had told him that she had discovered, in the basement, a torpedo. Regardless, he excused himself from work and rushed home. There he found it, a “torpedo”.

The sizeable, green-colored explosive had been casually resting in the couple’s basement for a long time. They called in a veteran to check the grizzly thing out, and he believed that it was from the Korean or even Vietnam war. He also noted that it was not likely to be a torpedo, but rather an anti-tank bomb. Regardless, the couple obviously didn’t want something that could send them to high heaven, so they called in the authorities to properly defuse and remove the bomb.

There are many people in this wild and wonderful world of ours who love nothing more than a good adventure. Like Diane and Pat Farla, who like the previously mentioned other British couple, were living in a beautiful Victorian home. When the Farlas had polished a bottle of wine one evening, they decided that it was time to finally investigate the eerie grate that they had found in their basement. They headed down like giggling children.

With some tipsy effort, the couple managed to remove the grate and saw that there was a small tunnel that would barely fit children. The secret room led to another one and, incredibly, to an entire subterranean city! It was called Derinkuyu, and the Turkish gentleman could not believe that his home was connected to this underground complex of halls and tunnels. This was where a people called the Hittites once lived.

Do you find old, faded photographs unsettling? If so, then you can imagine the fear that one homeowner felt when she found a blackened, heavily scratched polaroid hanging on their wall. Worse, the caption beneath the polaroid snap had been frantically scribbled on and read “DO YOU SEE HIM?” This would be enough to make us list our home for as low a price as possible for a speedy retreat. Sorry, we are not dealing with that.

One young homeowner came across a safe that had been built into his kitchen wall! Quite the odd place to put a safe, but he was invested in opening it all the same. He thought that he would find nothing but old food supplies for an emergency holdout or medical supplies.

The homeowner called in a locksmith who had a knack for cracking old safes. The man hovered over his shoulder while he got to work, grunting with effort. After about an hour of hard and technical work, the safe was busted open. Inside, the two men found an old book, a bourbon bottle, as well as $50,000 in cash! The book in question was by E.F. Schumacher and was called “A Guide for the Perplexed”.

A plumber was once busy renovating a bathroom, getting down and dirty with a pile of debris that he was shoveling away. That was when spotted something sparkly. Something told this man that this small glimpse was significant, and he eagerly got down on his hands and knees and began scooping away the trash. There, beneath all the muck, was a golden bar, worth $50,000. The plumber was an honorable man, however, and presented it to the homeowner.
