He watched from the shadows as the scraps of steak and asparagus were scraped into the plastic bag. She glanced back and forth at the dish of mushrooms before shaking the cold food into the bag. The man moved closer, his brows wrinkled. He wasn’t robbed by a ninety-year-old every day.

Unusual
Showing Up Unannounced
When Henry Luc Lenoir paid a surprise visit that evening, he was unaware that an unidentified old woman was removing food from his kitchen. He never showed up unexpectedly, despite Hannah Olsen’s exceptional maintenance of the space. But tonight he had to drive to the restaurant for whatever reason.

Showing Up Unannounced
A Cold Night
Due to the chilly night, Henry had given the idea of staying home. A stormy night was in store as he got into his car as whirling black clouds loomed above the pitch-black cityscape. Henry started his car despite the weather and time, sped through the sluggish evening traffic, and drove to his restaurant. He would understand that he ought to have done this a long time ago after discovering what he had.

A Cold Night
Sneaking In
He had already begun his journey to the restaurant when he noticed raindrops on his windshield. Henry parked a block away and concealed himself under an umbrella to avoid being seen. The night shift cleaners had plenty of time to prepare for the following day’s activities because it shut down at 10 p.m. Making sure no one was looking, he snuck out the back door. Henry hoped to view his employees in their natural habitat as he snuck into his workplace in this manner. What he would learn was very unexpected.

Sneaking In
Getting Things Ready
The kitchen had already cleaned several sections and some of the bright lights had been turned off. Henry stood in a shadowy spot and observed as several of the night staff hurried from the kitchen and left the 90-year-old woman alone. She looked around, stemmed tears shimmering in her eyes. She moved toward a few unwashed unclean dishes with a sigh in her voice.

He Sees Her

She moved toward a few unwashed unclean dishes with a sigh in her voice.

He Sees Her
Clearing The Plate
She took her first dish, which was half-filled with curly fries and ketchup. There were fried mushrooms on there as well, with ranch dressing on top of them. The woman lifted the plate and put it down. Except for the recognizable grease and sauce mark, the leftovers were gone after she performed this. Henry was unable to determine where the food had been poured.

Clearing The Plate
Anger
He moved stealthily to a different corner to have a better glimpse while his eyebrows twitched. The woman took a dish that was laden with meat and asparagus. She retrieved a plastic bag from her apron and placed the food into it before peeking over her shoulder. Henry was enraged beyond measure. He found it incomprehensible that someone would steal from him covertly.

Anger
A Succesful Business
Henry cherished and cared for the restaurant as if it were his own, despite the fact that he had inherited it from his late father. He immediately turned the diner into a well-liked restaurant, making it a hot destination for visitors to his city. The outcome was a company he had grown and managed for almost ten years, turning it into a cozy setting where friends and families could create lasting memories. He was furious when he saw the woman hide food that ought to have gone to shelters.

A Succesful Business
Confusion
Henry observed from the shadows rather than approaching her as she reached for another plate. She quickly added mashed potatoes and extra gravy to her bag. She got in touch with another cleaner after appearing pleased with her work and was asked whether she was done. She replied, “Yes,” and the cleaner said he will finish. What was happening?

Confusion
Finishing Up
A sizable handbag was waiting in a different kitchen nook as the woman moved there. She quickly stuffed the plastic bag loaded with food inside and went back to assist with the dishes. Hannah, the restaurant manager, entered a little while later and motioned for her and the other cleaner to hurry since she was about to close the establishment.

Finishing Up
Follow Her
Together, the two nodded, then cleared the remaining plates. After grabbing her pocketbook, the old woman left the kitchen. He snuck out after her in the same stealth that he had entered. He had never been one to follow someone about, especially at night, but he was curious about this woman who was so audacious as to take from him.

Follow Her
Through The Rainy Night
Despite her advanced age, the woman didn’t require a cane to navigate the wet roadway, so Henry trailed her by a few steps. She strolled with her umbrella firmly in hand, impressing even Henry. She navigated many streets to reach a location in the city Henry hardly ever went. He realized he had lost her for the evening when he watched her get into a bus.

Through The Rainy Night
Go Home
In an effort to speak with Hannah, Henry returned to the restaurant. But all the doors were locked, and the location was as quiet as a graveyard. Though he had the option, he refrained from calling her. Even he needed to be in bed by now because it was already three in the morning. When the sun rose, he would take care of this.

Go Home
Who Is She?
Unexpectedly early in the morning, Henry drove to the restaurant to meet Hannah. He needed to know why a woman he had never met was packing the restaurant leftovers into a bag at two in the morning after giving her precise directions on what to do with them. Even the staff on the night shift, Henry usually made an attempt to get to know all of his employees. He didn’t like the idea that he didn’t know anything about this woman.

Who Is She
Talking To Hannah
He hurried inside after leaving his car outside the eatery and discovered Hannah preparing breakfast and lunch. He summoned her over, “Hannah,” pointing to the office where they were supposed to talk about what happened that night. Hannah was on her way to him when the old woman entered the restaurant and waved at her before going to the kitchen.

Talking To Hannah
She’s Here
Henry was hesitant to ask Hannah any questions because of the way she looked. The fact that the woman knew Hannah was obvious. Especially considering how late she had left the previous evening, Henry didn’t understand why she was here at such an early hour. Henry lied that he would leaving the nation that night for a few months, therefore he was here to say goodbye. He said that he had simply come to say “Hi.” He could tell something was going on behind his back by Hannah’s response.

She’s Here
Something’s Up
Hannah came out as being overly happy that Henry was leaving the country. She gave him her word that the restaurant was in good hands. Henry would have trusted her in a different situation. Henry was happy to have her at his side because she had demonstrated her value in several ways. But now that everything was taking place, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Something’s Up
Searching For Her
He bid farewell to the cooks, servers, and housekeepers as he made his way into the kitchen. Despite searching the entire area with his eyes, he was unable to locate the elderly woman. He called off his search and walked away quietly since he didn’t want his quest to be obvious. He was aware of the ideal moment to return.

Searching For Her
A Thorough Search
Henry scoured his employee database all day long in search of the woman. But he failed to locate her. Either the woman didn’t work at the restaurant and was stealing food intended for shelters, or she was a recent hire awaiting processing into the system. In either case, Henry needed to put a stop to what she was doing because it wasn’t right. He would need to catch her in the act first, though.

A Thorough Search
The Waiting Game
When he eventually apprehended her, Henry pondered his options. Would it be excessive to call the police on a 90-year-old? As night fell over the city and a light rain began to fall, he inhaled deeply. Before heading to the restaurant to catch the food thief, he only had to wait a few hours.

The Waiting Game
Back In Action
When it was one in the morning, Henry had already left for the city. Like the previous night, he parked his car away from the restaurant and hurried inside. He was relieved to see that most of the lights were off when he snuck into the kitchen. He remained where he had been the previous evening, aware that the same thing would happen again.

Back In Action
Be Strong
As if on cue, the elderly woman walked into the kitchen where others were at work. She gave them a warm welcome and engaged in reassuring chats with them. Henry was astonished to find his interest piqued by her tales, and for a brief moment he yearned to emerge from the shadows and speak with her. But a lot was at risk in this situation. He had to be tough.

Be Strong
Hannah Olsen
The other cleaners left the room as Hannah entered the kitchen. With her hands on her hips, Hannah gave the woman a curt, “Well, hurry up,” remark. “Despicable,” she sneered. Her face twisted, and her voice was filled with disgust. She turned her head away as her eyes started to mist up. But she wiped them off and continued working.

She’s In On It
Henry observed the events as they happened. He had a suspicion Hannah was involved in this. He had confirmed it with him. She immediately threw the plates into the washer after packing enough leftovers into her suitcase. Henry had never previously witnessed such sadness. His outrage was melted away by the scene, and was replaced with a burning curiosity. He had to find out who this lady was.

She’s In On It
Where Is She Going?
He observed Hannah secure the entrances to the restaurant as she finished and turned out the lights. Henry snuck outside and followed the woman down the street. But on this occasion, he boarded the bus before she did. He followed her on a pitch-black road outside the city while keeping her in view. While crickets chirped all around her and distant thunder rumbled through the night sky, she walked to a trailer park while softly humming.

Where Is She Going
Be Done With It
After a while, Henry heard children talking inside one of the trailers where the woman had gone. The sound of someone unwrapping plastic paper filled the air, and their little voices were filled with delight. After a brief delay, the woman emerged and made her way to the trailer’s back, where she checked a gas pipe before connecting it. But without turning around, she said, “If you’re gonna do something bad, be done with it. If not, join us for dinner, maybe shelter from this wretched rain.” Henry froze.

Be Done With It
Sorry
When the woman smiled and turned around, Henry felt a burning sense of shame. He took a step back uncomfortably while rubbing his nape. He apologized, he said. The woman didn’t know who he was, he had just realized. Her voice and smile were gentle and inviting; her eyes windows to a soul that had experienced all the world had to give. As he went to leave, she pleaded with him to stay “for a cup of coffee at least.” Henry entered the vehicle.

Sorry
Inside The Trailer
Before beginning dinner for four children who were playing with toys in the trailer’s living room, he observed the wife make him a cup of coffee. They all appeared to be no older than ten. She made a mini-feast for the kids, Henry, and herself by emptying all the food she had purchased from the restaurant into several containers, which astounded Henry. But she also talked about herself while preparing the dinner.

Inside The Trailer
Kimberly Harker
The lady was identified as Kimberly Harker. She had a 91-year-old age. The children in her living room were the last of her living relatives—her great-great-grandchildren. A freak accident that killed their parents and grandparents a year prior left the children in Kimberly’s care. She had accepted them with both arms open despite being close to a century old. But that was just the beginning.

Kimberly Harker
Dumbfounded
She had sold her house and car and donated the proceeds to a college fund for each of her children because she knew she didn’t have much time left on earth. She was too elderly for any job, but she managed to secure the cleaning job at Henry’s restaurant. When she told Henry that she had been putting in double shifts for him for six months, he was astounded. Hannah let her take the leftovers home as part of her pay. Henry was unable to even speak. Hannah would come to regret the day she made this kind of behind his back move thanks to him.
